This is a process between RO and UF it has most of the benefits of RO without removing the minerals. It also wastes less water to clean its membrane.

Under-Counter Nanofiltration System
The Nanofiltration system is one of the most complete under the counter systems available. It has the ability to eliminate a large amount of contaminants such as bacteria, virus, chlorine, rust and pesticides. Like Reverse Osmosis (RO) the Nanofiltration (NF) membrane removes calcium (also called lime or kalk) and about half the salt from water, however unlike the RO membrane Nanofiltration preserves the minerals in the water.
With the Nanofiltration system, you can rest assured that your drinking water is clean, clear and healthy.
  • Maintenance is easy and low cost
  • Filtered water tastes and smells great
  • Promotes a healthy lifestyle
  • Hidden away out of sight, only a chrome tap is visible.
  • Removes calcium (lime or kalk) from water
  • Flushing of the membrane is done automatically
  • Preserve the natural minerals in the water
  • Delivers up to 700 liters of filtered water per day
Keep in mind:
  • The system has a water wastage rate of 1:1 due to constant flushing of the membrane, so for every 1 litre of clean, filtered water produced, 1 litre will be used to flush the system.
  • An important thing to remember before installing any filtration system is to check, which pipe under the counter is bringing the water to the tap and what size the source piping is. The standard household piping size is normally ½ inch (12.7mm) or ¾ inch (19 mm) thick. Some older houses have copper piping instead of newer systems and in such cases special attachments will be required to install the Nano to the copper piping. In order to ensure that you do not have to buy additional adaptors due to the connections not matching the piping, please check what type and size your piping is before ordering a filtration system.
  • A hole will have to be drilled into the counter or table where the NF’s tap will be placed.
  • The filters all have a certain life span and must be replaced to ensure that the system works effectively, specifically the Sediment filter, Granular Activated Carbon, Carbon block and T33 Carbon (Taste and odour filter) which must be changed every 6 months.
  • The Nano system requires a water pressure of between 3 and 6 bars (50 to 100 psi) to operate. If your water pressure is lower than 3 bar (- 50 psi), we recommend that you consider the RO system with the booster pump. If your water pressure is above 6 bars (+ 100 psi), we recommend that you also install a Pressure Regulator. Otherwise the system will be damaged.
How does it work?
The Nanofiltration (NF) system has five stages and it is connected to a single point in the household (for example the kitchen). The water flows from the water source (normally the same source pipe as the standard tap), through the five stage system and then pure water is available from NF’s elegant chrome tap. Below are two illustrations describing the process involved in the NF system.
Below is an outline of each filter and what exactly it removes from the water.

Interesting DIY Modification:

This is an alternative way to connect the system that allows a much higher flow rate from the tap.

Adds an alternative water point.

Installation in Pretoria or Johannesburg

We have an agreement with a 3rd party plumbing company for fixed priced installations for standard installations. This allows us to offer installation as an option via our online store. This should cover most situations but as it is a 3rd party company that will be performing the actual installation of your system if additional work or parts are required the installer will have to be paid for this directly.

Please ensure that you have read through the description in detail and that you have selected the correct product options for your situation as the plumbers would only be able to advise you on installation and not on the filters themselves.

If you have a marble or granite counter top please select the additional option if you want to faucet mounted in the counter top.

Possible Concerns or Issues that might affect pricing of the installation

  • Insufficient Space for the system
  • Not enough pipe
  • Rotten Cupboards
  • Incorrect Pipe Sizes for the supply connector selected
  • Old Pipes/ connections
  • Electricity and water supply needs to be easily accessible.
  • Over pressure and didn’t select a protection valve (will then need buy a Pressure Protection Valve at extra cost)

Note however that 90% of our clients normally do a DIY Installations and the kits are designed with that in mind.

Additional Options:

Premium KDF instead of carbon filters:

Changing the carbon filters for Premium KDF filters will change the maintenance of the carbon filters to every 24 months, thus only the 1st and the 5th filter will need to be changed every 6 months. For more information on KDF and its benefits click here.
If you have Bacteria in your Source Water:

If you have bacteria in your source water:

If the bacteria builds up in the system it will result in biofouling of the membrane, this will then result in getting worse water out of the filter system than you actually had before it. Therefore we highly recommend changing the system into a double barrier system if you suspect that you have bacteria in your source water. This can be done by replacing the second filter (the GAC) with a Premium KDF that will prevent a build-up of bacteria in the filter. We then add a physical barrier to bacteria by replacing the third filter (the Carbon Block) with Ultra Filtration Cartridge.  This filter will need to be changed once a year but will greatly improve the system's ability to handle contaminated source water at a fraction of the cost of a custom small industrial system.

Ultra Violet (UV) Light:

The Nano Membrane will remove bacteria and viruses from the water, however once the water has passed the Nano membrane there is nothing to stop any bacteria that may be inside the tank, or could possibly find their way in to the piping after the Nano membrane. So for additional peace of mind that all the bacteria and viruses have been removed, you can have a Ultra Violet (UV) Light filter added to the Nano system. The UV light would be just before the tap, and would just ensure that any bacteria or viruses that may have entered after the Nano membrane are killed.

  • The UV light's Bulb has a life span of One Year
  • The 10 watt UV Bulb would be R 450.00 to replace.
  • Keep in mind that the UV Light Addition will require an electrical source in order to operate.

Inline Water Chiller:

The Inline Water Chiller provides up to 12 LPH of water at under 10oc. This is ideal for an entertainment area or a situation where the water is too hot coming from the filter system.

Larger Nano Tank:

The Nano system comes standard with an 8 to 12 Liter Nano Tank, which means that when you open the Nano's tap you will get 8 to 12 liters at one go and then the tank will have to refill itself. If you require more than 8 to 12 Liters at a single time when you open the tap, then there is an option of having a larger tank on the system.

There are three larger size tanks available: 24 Liter, 40 Liters and 72 Liters.

Leak Detector:

The Leak detector is installed on to the under the counter unit, and serves to protect against damage that may be cause by any leakage of the filter system.

The leak detector will cut off the source water if there are any leaks coming from the main unit.

Keep in mind that the leak detector will not stop leaks from the unit's source connector and faucet.

Pressure Reducing Valve:

The system and its housings are rated for a maximum pressure of 6 bars, higher than that and the housing will crack or "bulge". If you have very high water pressure or you know that your source pressure is prone to sudden pressure spikes then it is strongly recommend that you get a pressure reducing valve.

The Pressure reducing valve will keep the incoming pressure from exceeding 6 bar and so prevent the unit from being damaged.

Chilling and Heating options

Are you looking to have your filtered water chilled and heated then there are several options avaliable:

Plumbed in water dispenser

We have several variations of plumbed in water dispensers avaliable, all of which can be connected directly up to the filter system allowing you to chill and heat the filtered water.

Ideal for office, commercial and domestic situations.

You can find more information on the plumbed in water dispensers at the following link.

Customers who bought this item also bought

10" Premium KDF

A filter with a ratio of 4:6 of KDF to GAC by weight. This much KDF is expensive but for it to have the effects mentioned earlier this is the recommended ratio. The lifespan of the filter will also be vastly improved to 24 months.
